How do you measure your horse correctly...?

In our step-by-step guide, we show you how to measure your horse, horse rug or saddle pad correctly. If you are measuring directly on your horse, an extra pair of hands can be very helpful. Use a flexible measuring tape. Please feel free to contact us with any questions – we are happy to advise you on every detail. At the end of this page, you will find our standard measurements, which fit most horses. We are just as happy to make the perfect rug precisely to your horse’s individual measurements – at no extra charge.

Horse rugs

Back length (A)
Measure from the highest point of the withers to the base of the tail, or to the point where you want the rug to end. Run the measuring tape along your horse’s spine.

Overall length (B)
Measure from the centre of the chest to the rear of the horse, below the point of the buttocks.

Side depth (C)
Measure from the lowest point of the back to the lower centre of the belly, or to the point where you want the rug to end. Ideally, it should finish below the elbow joint in the upper third of the forearm.

Neck width (D)
Measure from the withers to the lower base of the neck.

*You can find our standard measurements at the bottom of this page.*
