After shearing, the wool is washed, combed, drawn and spun. Once the wool yarn has been woven into a loose fabric, it is fulled to create boiled wool: the wool is pressed, moved and rubbed together in warm water. This causes the wool fabric to shrink by around 20–60% and creates a dense structure with the characteristic air pockets found in boiled wool. These air pockets give boiled wool its warming and temperature-balancing properties. Only clean water is used in this process; no chemicals or other softening agents are added.

Thanks to wool’s temperature-balancing properties, heat build-up is avoided. Wool is therefore ideal for warming up before training and cooling down afterwards, and it helps keep the horse warm during transport, for example in draughts.

Our rugs can also be used in summer, for example in cool conditions or after prolonged rain. Wool is also well suited to horses that are prone to muscle tension or feel the cold easily.

Easy to care for and washable: coarse dirt can be shaken or gently brushed off, while unpleasant odours dissipate naturally. Thanks to the unique dirt-repellent properties of the natural fibre, one wash per year is usually sufficient with average use (cold wash, wool cycle).

For optimum care, we recommend the CHVX*N Care Set. Alternatively, a conventional replenishing wool detergent can be used.

To produce cotton fabric, the cotton fibres are harvested, cleaned and separated from the seeds. The long fibres are then sorted and pressed into bales. Spinning mills turn these cotton bales into yarn, which is then woven into fabric.

Cotton is grown in more than 80 countries, including China, India, the USA, Pakistan, Brazil, Australia, Turkey, Greece, Mexico and several African countries. CHVX*N organic cotton comes from Italy and Turkey.

Thanks to its high strength and tear resistance, cotton is exceptionally well suited to use on horses and in the stable. The natural fibre releases excess heat effectively, absorbs moisture extremely well, is breathable and does not insulate strongly.

Cotton therefore provides less warmth than boiled wool, for example, and is ideal as a lightweight cooler or travel rug, including in summer.

Cotton is hard-wearing, durable and easy to care for.

We recommend washing CHVX*N rugs made from organic cotton at a maximum of 40°C with a mild detergent on a gentle cycle.

Merino wool is shorn in large, continuous fleeces. The resulting fleece is thoroughly washed and combed until the fibres lie parallel to one another. The individual fibres are then spun into yarn, which is subsequently woven into fabric.

Merino sheep are kept for wool production mainly in New Zealand, Australia, Argentina and South Africa.

Merino wool is not only soft, lightweight and breathable, but also odour-neutralising and temperature-regulating, which makes it ideal for sports and outdoor clothing.

For horse rugs, merino wool is an excellent choice because it protects against the cold while wicking moisture away at the same time. Merino wool is exceptionally light, breathable and non-itchy – ideal for horses with sensitive skin and coats. It is a highly valuable natural alternative to synthetic materials.

Merino wool is very easy to care for and wash. There are, however, a few important points to observe: we recommend washing only in cold water on a wool cycle with a wool detergent that contains no enzymes. Some wool detergents contain the enzyme protease. This enzyme can break down the keratin in merino wool and may cause small holes after washing. We recommend pH-neutral mild or technical detergents, or the CHVX*N Care Set, together with regular lanolin treatment.
